About Kestrel Ridge Health
We build technician staffing software for independent ophthalmology groups. The problem we are solving is specific: eye care staffing fails at the session level, not the headcount level. Standard benchmarks tell you how many FTEs to budget. They do not tell you whether next Wednesday's retina session is overstaffed while Monday's cataract surgery block runs short.
What we build
Kestrel Ridge Health builds staffing software for multi-site ophthalmology practices. The product forecasts technician workload by session and assigns staff under eight hard rules that encode how experienced administrators already think about coverage. The output is a concrete schedule recommendation, not a dashboard to interpret.
The forecast model uses historical schedule data to predict how many technicians a given session type requires. The eight rules layer on clinical and operational constraints: procedure mix, provider preferences, credentialing, travel time between sites, and minimum staffing floors. A human approves every recommendation before it affects any schedule.
Why we started
Ophthalmic technicians are credentialed clinical staff. They are not interchangeable with medical assistants or general clinical support. Training takes months. The scope of work spans pre-testing, patient education, surgical prep, and specialty imaging. Multi-site groups face compounding complexity: sessions vary by subspecialty, provider volume, and site capability. A group running four locations with a mix of general ophthalmology, retina, and cataract surgery may be managing 30 or more distinct session types across the week.
The staffing problem at that scale is not solved by hiring more. It is solved by knowing, in advance, which sessions are likely to run short and why. That is the gap Kestrel Ridge Health is built to close.
Current status
Phase Zero is available now. It is a diagnostic engagement that runs on a clinic's existing schedule data. It produces a workload forecast by session type, identifies the sessions with the highest variance, and reports which of the eight hard rules are most frequently binding. Phase Zero does not require new software, integration work, or staff training to run.
Groups that complete Phase Zero receive a written report and a structured recommendation for whether and how to proceed to a staffed schedule product. There is no automatic progression to a paid product. The diagnostic stands on its own.
